The Enforcement Bureau issued two Orders on April 6, 2015, fining CenturyLink $16 million and Intrado Communications $1.4 million following the Commission’s investigation of the April 2014 multi-state 911 “sunny day” outage. The FCC concluded the outage was preventable if the providers had implemented basic safeguards and timely notifications to the affected emergency call centers. The companies also agreed to adopt compliance plans that require them to implement appropriate risk management processes in the continued rollout of Next-Generation 911 services and to exercise the same oversight over their subcontractors and affiliates.
